Our last project:
Wekiva Air Potato Round-up
Held at Wekiva River Basin State Park!
The 1st Annual Wekiva Air Potato Round-up will be held this year on January 16th, 2010 at 9 a.m. during National Invasive Species Awareness Week! Come learn how you can help us make this a successful Air Potato Round-up!
The air potato is a pesky exotic and a large scale effort to remove this plant involving many people can be very successful. We plan to have volunteers visit a site within the park where there is an air potato problem. Each team will collect the tubers (potatoes) and remove the vines. Various prizes for largest potatoes and biggest basket of spuds will be awarded. We hope this will become a popular event at the park that will draw lots of volunteers! The round-up lasts just a few hours and is a super way to get involved in natural areas restoration and beautification efforts. Round-up begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park.
Anyone interested in being a site captain or just wanting to know more about this great event can contact Amy Clifton, Wekiwa Springs State Park Biologist at 407-884-2006 or Amy.Clifton@dep.state.fl.us or shoot us an email at greg@pangeaadventureracing.com!
UPDATE: 60 people turned out to collect a total of 700 pounds of potatoes! Junior Civitans from Bishop Moore High School assisted us with this project.
Upcoming Projects:
If interested in helping to improve, reestablish and maintain the bike trail network at Rock Springs Run State Reserve beginning this year please contact greg@pangeaadventureracing.com.
Past Projects:
Our first PGB project on August 28, 2009 was a great success. Pangea Adventure Racing helped open trails used for student field trips at the Seminole County Public Schools. Thank you to the many volunteers who came out so student field trips would be a great success outdoors.
